Dress Aloud on your phone

No keyboard shortcuts on a phone, and no typing. On any product page you tap Share, then Dress Aloud. The app opens and asks one question: try it on now, or add it to your outfit. One tap.

Android

Dress Aloud is on Google Play. Get Dress Aloud on Google Play, install it, and sign in once with your access code. It works with TalkBack, and your photo stays on the phone.

  1. In any store app or browser, on the product page, tap Share, then Dress Aloud.
  2. The app reads the page on your phone, so stores that block automatic readers work too. It asks one question: try it on now, or add it to your outfit. One tap.

No app? Open dressaloud.com in Chrome, open the browser menu, and choose Add to Home screen; that puts Dress Aloud in the Share menu as well, read through our server instead of on the phone.

iPhone (Safari, VoiceOver)

The simplest way, no setup beyond one tap

  1. Once: open dressaloud.com in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, then Add. Dress Aloud is now an icon on your Home Screen.
  2. On any product page: tap Share, then Copy. Open the Dress Aloud icon and tap Paste the link and try it on. That is the whole thing.

Stores that block automatic readers (Amazon among them) give the picture only this way; the Shortcut below reads the page on your phone instead.

Optional: a Share-menu Shortcut, if you want one tap

Apple does not let a web app into the Share menu, so Dress Aloud can go in as a Shortcut. It behaves exactly the same. It also does one extra thing: it fetches the store page on your phone and hands it to Dress Aloud, so stores that block automatic readers (Amazon among them) still give the full picture and title.

If someone has already made it and shared an iCloud link with you, just open the link and tap Add Shortcut. Done. The steps below are only for making it the first time.

Make it once (three actions, about three minutes)

  1. Open the Shortcuts app. On the Shortcuts tab, double-tap Create Shortcut (the plus button, top right).
  2. Add the first action.
    1. Double-tap Add Action. In the search field type Get Contents of URL and double-tap the result.
    2. The action reads "Get contents of URL". Double-tap the URL field. Above the keyboard is a row of suggestions; double-tap Shortcut Input. The field now says "Shortcut Input". That is the page you will share.
  3. Add the second action, which sends the page to Dress Aloud.
    1. Double-tap Add Action, search Get Contents of URL again, double-tap the result. You now have two of them.
    2. In this second one, double-tap the URL field and type exactly: https://dressaloud.com/api/share?url= and then, without leaving the field, double-tap Shortcut Input in the suggestions so it is added right after the equals sign.
    3. Double-tap Show More (the arrow on the action). Set Method to POST. Set Request Body to File. In the File field, choose the variable Contents of URL (the result of the first action).
  4. Add the third action, which opens Dress Aloud.
    1. Double-tap Add Action, search Open URLs, double-tap the result.
    2. Its URL field should already say Contents of URL (the answer from Dress Aloud, which is the exact link to open). If it does not, double-tap the field and pick Contents of URL from the suggestions, making sure it is the one from the second action.
  5. Name it and put it in the Share menu.
    1. Double-tap the shortcut name at the top, choose Rename, and type Try on with Dress Aloud.
    2. Double-tap the info button (the letter i, bottom of the screen). Turn on Show in Share Sheet. Under Share Sheet Types keep URLs and Safari web pages on. Double-tap Done, then Done again.

Using it: on any product page in Safari or the Amazon app, tap Share, then Try on with Dress Aloud. The first time, iOS asks whether the shortcut may send data to dressaloud.com; choose Always Allow.

Share it with everyone: open the shortcut's info screen, choose Share, then Copy iCloud Link. Anyone who opens that link adds the shortcut with one tap.

Simpler version, one action, if the three above feel like too much: a single Open URLs action whose URL is https://dressaloud.com/?url= followed by Shortcut Input. It works the same on most stores; on Amazon it gets the picture only.

Any phone, no setup: paste

  1. In the store, tap Share, then Copy link.
  2. Open Dress Aloud and tap Paste the link and try it on. That is the whole thing.

Outfits on the phone

Share each piece and choose Add it to my outfit instead. When you have them all, tap Try on the whole outfit. One picture, one try-on, every piece described, a verdict per piece, and whether they go together.
